Biology at D’Youville
A B.S. in biology
The B.S. in biology degree is well suited to students
interested in going on to graduate school in one of the
biological specialties. Its curriculum provides a sound
foundation in the sciences and introduces you to many of
those specialties. The B.S. in biology is also intended for
those who plan to enter medical, dental or veterinary
school. Likewise, it also serves as a prepatatory major for
students interested in enrolling in
D’Youville’s doctor of chiropractic program and
is one of the pathways into our physical therapy doctorate.
It has been designed to satisfy the admission requirements
of these schools and to prepare you to meet their entrance
standards. You can count on D’Youville’s
Preprofessional Advisory Committee for accurate and timely
guidance as you navigate through the complicated process of
applying to graduate or professional schools. We will help
you plan your efforts, write your application, review for
the entrance examination, and prepare for interviews.
A B.A. in biology
A B.A. biology degree can prepare you for biologically
related jobs in the health care industry, pharmaceuticals,
environmental companies, various governmental and
industrial jobs, including research institutes, both
private and public. The B.A. is also appropriate for those
wishing to teach biology in high school. State law now
requires that these students obtain an M.S. in education
following completion of their bachelor’s degree. The
biology department will help you to coordinate your program
so that you can complete both degrees with minimal
inconvenience and enter the work force fully
prepared.
