If you want to know the molecular weight, just add up the atomic weights. The molecular weight of hydrogen is 2 grams (because hydrogen comes as H2 molecules). The molecular weight of water (H2O) is 18 grams. 16+1+1= 18 The molecular weight of sodium fluoride (NaF) is 42 grams. 23+19= 42 Wait a minute (I hear you cry) NaF is not a molecule...well we talked about this on the last page...if you prefer, you can call it the formula weight of NaF...most people are happy to live with the term molecular weight. |
