Neon

Neon has 10 electrons. Two of them are in the first "shell" and 8 are in the second. A schematic diagram of neon would look like this:

Fluorine has 9 electrons. To become like neon it can accept 1 electron and form the fluoride ion ( F- ).

Sodium has 11 electrons. To become like neon it can lose 1 electron and form the sodium ion ( Na+).
