Tocqueville's New York

Hi, I am studying Alexis de Tocqueville's book, Democracy in America, and plan to take a 17 day trip from New York City to Cleveland, Ohio in order to retrace the initial part of his 19th century journey which allowed him to create one of the greatest commentaries on the United States as a nation unlike any other. This account of his ideas concerning the country remains today as a mainstay within the world of political science. My trip will be completed by bicycle following several major routes, and will involve the transfer of information from my location each day to my web site centered in Buffalo, NY. I will ride approximately 60 miles per day each day and in the process visit several sites acknowledged by Tocqueville in his notes. To do this, I have gathered several resources and set out to create a comprehensive outline of my progress online. I hope you enjoy it.

I will keep a daily journal and site list as well as post information concerning specific topics addressed and emphasized by Tocqueville in his book. You can check these out in The Trip. Check back each night for updates.
